The Bassoon has been being played by musicians since medieval times. Howarth and Loriee are both very dependable brands, and the quality is great, but again price is an issue, so you may want to look into buying your bassoon used. Or find a different brand that meets your budget.
When you decide to buy a used bassoon you want to look down the bore of the first joint made of wood, make sure it is straight and has little to no scratches. Also you want to pay special attention to the condition for the pads, corks and felts. There is no point in spending money on something that will not serve your needs. So if you are buying it used from a store look at it, if you are thinking of buying it off of the internet ask questions.
